As we start running up to Christmas it’s time to meet some more of the Tom Smith Team. First up, is Ffion Lewis, also known as Ffi, one of the creative designers at the studio. Ffi has been with the team for just over four years and has a vital role within the design team. Along with our other designers she researches ideas from trend shows and online inspiration. She then translates these into new visual concepts for our customers and develop designs for an array of products. We asked her a few questions about her time with Tom Smith:
What have you learned that’s new this year?
I have learnt so much this year especially working across all products which include crackers, Bags, Tins and many more. My favourite product to design is wrapping paper and bags.
What is your favourite part of your job?
Designing from scratch and seeing the final product come to life in the shops and also in the Tom Smith catalogue.
If you could swap your job for a week with someone else at the company, what would it be and why?
I would swap with someone in the sample team as it would be great fun to produce an actual prototype of the product, and I love being surrounded by all the glitter and ribbons!
Who is your favourite person at work and why?
My team, they make me laugh and we help each other out.
What are your hobbies?
Exercise – Running, I did the Paris Marathon this year.
If you could design and make anything in the world what would it be?
My dream house in the country
What is your favourite colour?
What is your fondest memory whilst working for the company?
Being filmed for the Design Group website and also working on a photo shoot for Christmas cracker packaging as we got to dress up in winter jumpers and sparkly dresses in July having fun with props!
What’s your favourite product?
I enjoy working on co-ordinated bags, wrap and crackers.
What’s your Favourite Tom Smith fact / or history moment?
The history of the christmas cracker and being part of the Royal Warrant
What would be your ideal content in your cracker?
Cash or keys to a new car!
What is your favourite design trend this year?
The Cream and Gold trend because I enjoyed the journey it took me on, all product categories from researching the trend to the finished designs. I was excited to work on this particular trend as I had lots of ideas and wanted to play with different substrates and finishes to achieve a classic, simplistic and timeless collection.
What’s your favourite part of Christmas?
Getting all together as a family, winter walks followed by eating lots of hearty meals and lots of chocolate! 🙂
